Level 1.2 on the painted gauge on Northwoods Club Road. 1 cataraft, 1 raft, 1 kayakHad to cross frozen river 3 times. The ice started moving while we were on it one time. No incidents other than that. A good time was had by all.

We had our first trip of the year on Saturday April 2, 2011. This is one big group that comes every year in April. This is the most snow I have seen on opening day in the 15 years I have been rafting here. We were the only trip on the river. A little rain, a little snow, a little sun.

July 8th was a beautiful day on the river. Sunny and warm and the river continues to flow above normal. A couple times per year, you get days where the river is high and the air is warm. Heavy rain brought the river up from 3 feet to nearly 7 feet. The difference in volume is from 600cfs to 6000cfs. Every year the Hudson River Raft Guides from all the various outfitters, compete in a downriver sprint race called the GODS Race - stands for Guides and Outfitters Downriver Sprint. The race begins at the normal take-out and ends at Ordway Crossing, about 2.5 miles downstream. April started out very warm this year which gave us some great early season river days. We took advantage of the weather and did an overnight trip on the Hudson from Newcomb to North River. We rafted 24 miles in two days and camped at the Hudson-Cedar confluence. 75 degree and sunny on the Moose River is a fantastic start to the 2010 rafting season. The river level was perfect at 5.79 feet. We had three 14' 6 person rafts and a kayaker on our trip. Catarafts are the boat of choice on the Lochsa River in Northern Idaho. This is a Wild & Scenic River within the Clearwater National Forest.Two rafts negotiate Lochsa Falls at about 20,000 cfs.Looking downstream at Selway Falls.

Definitely what sets this trip apart was the helicopter that flew up Kettle Mountain rapid about 10 feet above the water and appeared right in our face as it rose above the horizon line. We were half way between No Name and Kettle Mountain Rapid.Annie and Andrew from DC were nice too. Here we are leaving Carter Landing after lunch.

We launched from Newcomb around 2pm with a reading of 4.5 on the North Creek gauge. This can be deceiving because so much water comes in from the Cedar River downstream 9 miles from where we put-in. These guys were scheduled to raft the Moose River, but it was too low (we need rain), so they decided to raft the Hudson instead. We rafted the Gorge on Sunday too. The North Creek gauge read 7.0 feet when we got off the river. High water is so good you have to take it when it comes, even if it's only in the 40's! First raft trip for North Creek Rafting Company in 2009! Our group today was 12 people who originally met in the Coast Guard academy so they weren't afraid to get cold or wet. First day on the water in 2009. Hudson River at 7.0 feet and about 40 degrees. Lots of ice still on shore, but none in the river. Linc and Nate R-2'd a 13' raft and Noah, Eric Wolff, and Jim Sorensen took a 12' raft. Noah flipped his raft with a big hit at bus stop. We had them back together before we got to the island.
