Hudson River Rafting Trip - 09/29/09

Here's some photos of a Hudson River Gorge trip last week. The colors are getting near peak and should be peak on Columbus Day weekend - which is our last weekend of the the 2009 season. The river was up at about 4.5 feet this day.

Flight Over the Hudson River Gorge - 08-09-09

We went on a flight over the Hudson Gorge on Sunday August 9, 2009. The half-hour flight was spectacular and highly recommended. Call Helms Aero Service in Long Lake at 518-624-3931 and go in the brown plane. More info here. We will definitely go again.

We had 2 rafts out on the river and here are some pictures:

North Creek Rafting Company Explores Idaho

Catarafts are the boat of choice on the Lochsa River in Northern Idaho. This is a Wild & Scenic River within the Clearwater National Forest.

Two rafts negotiate Lochsa Falls at about 20,000 cfs.

Hudson River Rafting Trip - 05/05/09

Definitely what sets this trip apart was the helicopter that flew up Kettle Mountain rapid about 10 feet above the water and appeared right in our face as it rose above the horizon line. We were half way between No Name and Kettle Mountain Rapid.

Annie and Andrew from DC were nice too. Here we are leaving Carter Landing after lunch.

Hudson River Overnight 04/16-17/09

We launched from Newcomb around 2pm with a reading of 4.5 on the North Creek gauge. This can be deceiving because so much water comes in from the Cedar River downstream 9 miles from where we put-in. It was low on the upper section of this trip, but a beautiful sunny day.

We had 4 rafts and a cataraft/shredder in our group, 7 people and two dogs.

We traveled 9 of the 25 miles on Day 1 and camped at a beautiful campsite at the confluence of the Hudson and Cedar Rivers. Campsite is very cool because not only do you have two different rivers on two sides of the site, but both rivers have rapids right there. Makes it a little tricky pulling in to camp, but not too bad.

Sunset over the Cedar River from our campsite.
The town of Indian Lake is about 14 miles upstream.

After a tasty breakfast we floated 2 miles down to the confluence with the Indian River right on time to catch the release out of Lake Abanakee. Other rafting trips were coming out of the Indian right as we approached. Must have been neat for those guests. Next we ran the 14 miles of the Hudson normally run on day trips. We all ran the Gorge without incident. A good time was had by all! Thanks to the chef!

Hudson River Rafting Trip - Wed 4/15/09

These guys were scheduled to raft the Moose River, but it was too low (we need rain), so they decided to raft the Hudson instead. To make the trip a little more exciting, we decided to run the Otter Slide, which is above the normal put-in for the Hudson Gorge trip.

Hudson River Rafting Trip - Sun 4/5/09

We rafted the Gorge on Sunday too. The North Creek gauge read 7.0 feet when we got off the river. High water is so good you have to take it when it comes, even if it's only in the 40's! No guests today, Nate, Eric and Linc in a 13' raft and Eric Knierim guiding a 14' raft with some friends. Josh and Alehandro paddled his cataraft/shredder creation. Nate, Eric and Linc got surfed and all swam at The Fox Den below Harris Rift.

Hudson River Rafting Trip - Sat 4/4/09

First raft trip for North Creek Rafting Company in 2009! Our group today was 12 people who originally met in the Coast Guard academy so they weren't afraid to get cold or wet. These guys were scheduled to run the Moose, but the Moose came up to nearly 9 feet! All 12 of them decided on the Hudson and we had a great trip. The Hudson was running at 8 feet. Eric K. and Nate guided two 14' Sotars with 6 in each. No unintentional swimmers.

Hudson River Rafting Trip - Mon 3/30/09

First day on the water in 2009. Hudson River at 7.0 feet and about 40 degrees. Lots of ice still on shore, but none in the river. Linc and Nate R-2'd a 13' raft and Noah, Eric Wolff, and Jim Sorensen took a 12' raft. Noah flipped his raft with a big hit at bus stop. We had them back together before we got to the island.
